Salt Athletic to Sponsor US National Team IQA World Cup Roster

Salt Athletic will sponsor the US National Team for the 2025 IQA World Cup.

Following a successful partnership with US Quadball Club Division Champion The Warriors, Salt Athletic has signed on to provide the USNT’s World Cup roster with Aērcase Cleat Bags. The Aērcase is a smell-proof cleat bag that uses space-age technology to keep life free from the stink of cleats and shin guards.

2026 USQ Cup Location Announcement

Bid Evaluation Process

US Quadball events are typically hosted at athletic facilities that submit proposals (“bids”) to host the event. Submitted bids are evaluated based on factors including facility quality (including field type - grass vs turf, historical weather data, and if the fields have lights), proximity to local teams, ease of travel into the city (proximity to a major airport), player safety, and availability of in-kind services and financial support - services and support that alleviate the cost of the event, allowing for a more affordable and accessible experience for players. Each of the bid packages of the event finalists listed below met USQ bid requirements and expectations in more than one of these categories. Further explanation of the bid process can be found in the event bidding manual.

Another major consideration was the experience of LGBTQIA+, Black, and non-Black people of color as they travel to and attend these events. Player safety in all forms is our number one priority for USQ events and programs. We have addressed safety for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) attendees more directly in our bid manual, as part of our continued commitment to uplifting the experiences of marginalized communities and combating racial injustice. USQ recognizes that LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC attendees often have not felt safe in the communities where USQ has hosted previous events, and moreover LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC attendees have experienced unsafe situations when traveling between their homes and the host city. We have ongoing dialogues with our city partners about what USQ and host cities can do to combat unsafe environments, and continue to implement policies related to minority player safety, including gender neutral bathrooms at events and a limited, where possible, law enforcement presence. We are also discussing the issue with staff, including the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee, as we continue the bid evaluation process.

Lastly, we also put a focus on developing new city partnerships. This connects directly with our vision of ensuring that more people in the United States are aware of quadball as a sport. Working with new city partners expands our exposure into areas where the community might not be fully aware of our sport, our leagues, or our events.

Questions about USQ’s bidding process can be sent to bidding@usquadball.org.

Event Sponsorship

If you are interested in sponsoring an event, or have any sponsor suggestions, please contact sponsorship@usquadball.org. Sponsorship opportunities include being named title sponsor, event area naming rights, Twitch livestream commercials, and more.

USNT Welcomes New USNTDA Head Coach, USNT Assistant Manager

The US National Team (USNT) program has brought on a new USNTDA head coach and a USNT assistant manager.

The US National Team (USNT) program has brought on a new USNTDA head coach and a USNT assistant manager.

In October, the USNT Developmental Academy (USNTDA) traveled to Quadball Nations Cup II in Salou, Spain and returned with their first international gold medal. Amanda Dallas served as the interim head coach for the event, supported by assistant coaches Jack Levy and Kennedy Murphy.

“Dallas did a tremendous job at Quadball Nations Cup and was able to go undefeated with the DA and bring home the gold. We appreciate her willingness to serve as interim for the one event. The program will miss her wealth of knowledge and leadership, we hope for the best in her future endeavors,” said USNT Manager Hanna Reese.

As previously mentioned, the goal was to promote one of the assistant coaches to the head coach role following the event in October. Jack Levy was selected as the next USNTDA head coach. Murphy will continue in her role as USNTDA assistant coach.

“At the Quadball Nations Cup and in his past work with Michigan University and the Detroit Innovators, Jack demonstrated he has what it takes to lead the next generation of quadball athletes. His passion for the sport is seemingly unmatched and he brings a fresh, new perspective to the program,” said USNT Head Coach Michael “Yada” Parada.

The program has also recruited seasoned MLQ manager Joan Boyes to serve as the USNT assistant manager.

Boyes has been an involved member of the quadball community since 2018 when she joined SHSU Quadball’s A-Team. She has served as president and manager of SHSU, president and manager of the Texas Copperheads, and manager for both the Houston Legends and San Antonio Soldados. While attending the Quadball Nations Cup, Boyes went out of her way to assist Reese throughout the tournament.

“Joan is quickly becoming a key organizer in the sport. Her can-do attitude, quick thinking, and willingness to learn makes her the ideal candidate for an assistant manager role. I’m excited to further my working relationship with her!” Reese said.

Parada will continue in his role as the USNT head coach, supported by assistant coaches Jackson Johnson and Ethan Sturm. Reese will continue in her role as USNT manager.

2024-25 National Qualifier Assignments & Bid Allocation

Announcement of qualifier assignments and nationals bid allocations by event

Announcement of national qualifier assignments and nationals bid allocations by event.

Bid Allocation

As outlined in September’s gameplay update, USQ Gameplay has assigned national qualifier tournaments to collegiate and club teams, as well as allocated nationals bids to each tournament based on the number of teams attending. A list of teams assigned to each qualifier can be found further down this article.

Similar to last seasons, collegiate qualification for the competitive divisions at nationals relies more on bids earned at national qualifiers, with a small number of at-large bids available later in the season. With all qualifiers in the spring, club competitive qualification relies only slightly more heavily on at-large bids; around half of bids are available to be earned at national qualifiers.

Collegiate Division

Like last season, collegiate teams are generally limited to attending one qualifier. However, the USQ Gameplay team will prioritize ensuring there are enough teams at each tournament to provide a valuable set of games for attending teams, and as may make use of an exception that allows teams to attend an additional qualifier to help meet the minimum number of teams required to hold an event. USQ will follow up with teams and attempt to increase attendance at national qualifiers with 4 or fewer teams in attendance.

Based on the number of teams attending each collegiate qualifier and using the Huntington-Hill method, nationals bids are distributed as follows:

National Qualifier D1 Bids D2 Bids
Garland - 6 teams 2 3
Placer Valley - 3 Teams 1 1
York County - 0 Teams 0 0
Howard County - 16 Teams 6 6
Champaign County - 11 Teams 4 4

In total, 13 Division 1 bids will be awarded at qualifiers. The remaining three Division 1 bids will be distributed through the at-large system after March 16, 2025. Teams who have earned a Division 2 bid at qualifier remain eligible to apply for at-large entry to Division 1.

In total, 14 Division 2 bids will be awarded at qualifiers. The remaining two Division 2 bids, as well as any additional Division 2 bids left by teams moving up to Division 1 through at-large, will also be distributed through the same at-large system in March.

As a reminder, collegiate nationals will comprise three divisions: Division 1 (16 teams), Division 2 (16 teams), and Open (uncapped). Read more about this here.

Club Division

Nationals bids are also allocated based on the Huntington-Hill Method this year. Club teams may attend multiple qualifiers, and for the purposes of calculations, will count for both events.

Based on the number of teams currently assigned to each qualifier, 11* bids will be distributed as follows:

National Qualifier Competitive Bids
Garland - 7 teams 2
Placer Valley - 7 Teams 2
York County - 7 Teams 2
Howard County - 14 Teams 3
Champaign County - 8 Teams 2

Remaining bids will be distributed through the at-large system after March 16, 2025, for a total of 16 teams. Club nationals will comprise two divisions: Club competitive (16 teams) and Club open (uncapped).

* While we had intended to distribute 10 bids at qualifiers, the bid math worked out that 10 bids could not be fairly distributed. While we could have distributed fewer bids, the number would have to be reduced to 8 instead, which is a greater discrepancy from what we had planned.

Seeking Tournament Staff

If you are interested in being a Tournament Director or Onsite Gameplay Manager for a National Qualifier event, please email gameplay@usquadball.org. Like last year, this is a paid position, but requires that you not play or referee at the event that you work. You can view a small summary of each of these positions at the end of this article.

Reminders

As a reminder from the beginning of season gameplay article, deadlines are as follows:

  • December 1, 2024, at 11:59 pm ET: registration deadline for national qualifier bid calculation (already passed)

  • March 16, 2025, at 11:59 pm ET: at-large gameplay requirements deadline

October 2024 Officials Updates

The USQ Officials Team under the Gameplay Department has some announcements and updates as the season begins.

2024-25 Casebook Released & Officials Certification Launched

The USQ Officials Team under the Gameplay Department has some announcements and updates as the season begins.

Officials Certification

Officials Certification has opened for Fall 2024-Spring 2025. The Assistant Referee, Seeker Referee, and Lead Assistant Referee Exam are all available at members.usquadball.org/ref. There is no limit to the number of times the exam can be completed, and only one passing score is needed to become certified.

  • Assistant Referees must pass the Assistant Referee Exam.

  • Flag Runners must pass the Seeker Referee Exam

  • Seeker Referees must pass the Assistant Referee and Seeker Referee Exam

  • Lead Assistant Referees and Head Referees must pass the Assistant Referee, Seeker Referee, and Lead Assistant Referee Exams.

  • Head Referees may also be required to field test based on their tier. Previously certified Head Referees should have received an email with their status of tier and recertification needs in an email. More information on the recertification exam will be available soon.

The officials requirements for teams for the 2024-2025 season will be as follows:

  • 1 Head Referee (includes field test)

  • 2 Lead Assistant Referees per team

  • 1 Seeker Referee per team

  • 2 Assistant Referees per team

  • 1 Flag Runner per team

Officials requirements will be due by January 26th. A spreadsheet showing certified officials by team will be available beginning late November.

Officials Resources

Referee One-Pagers are available on a range of topics in the google drive folder here and linked at members.usquadball.org/ref.

The 2024-2025 Casebook is also linked here, and the first version for this fall has been released. In the casebook, you’ll find examples of plays that have been called one way or inconsistently throughout the season, and have been given an official ruling from the US Quadball Officials and Rules Teams to be used during the 2024-2025 US Quadball season.

Based on community feedback and officials check ins over the season, the casebook will be updated the first week of each month to clarify how certain calls should be adjudicated. For questions, please reach out to referees@usquadball.org.

Tournament Directors can continue to request field test opportunities when having their events. To make sure proctors are available to attend their events, TDs should reach out as soon as possible to christian.barnes@usquadball.org and/or referees@usquadball.org.

USQ Event Update - Sept 2024

The USQ Events Department has some announcements and updates as the season begins.

The USQ Events Department has some announcements and updates as the season begins.

The Tournament Director Certification, Events pages, and more have been updated at https://members.usquadball.org/events-page.

Under the Host a Tournament tab, there is now the Event Registration Form, Sanctioned Event Application Form, and TD Certification Form! Beginning in October, the USQ Event Calendar will begin showing community events (pending submission approval).

Deadlines and details for USQ National Qualifier Events and USQ Cup 2025 are available for review.

For the upcoming season, USQ will continue using Quadball.one for all events and games during the season, and it is now a requirement for events. USQ will continue the roll out of the TD Proctor program, where TDs can connect with and learn from mentor TDs about their events. Interested parties can email christian.barnes@usquadball.org.

With the transition of all USQ National Qualifiers to the spring, we recommend the inclusion of more development at events for the fall. Teams may choose to attend an event as an exhibition team, where they will still need to follow USQ official rules and member compliance, but their games will not count for season play requirements or USQ official standings.

Please reach out to events@usquadball.org or membership@usquadball.org with any questions or concerns.

Gameplay Policies and Season Structure Updates

Final gameplay policies and season structure for the upcoming season

2024-25 Gameplay Policies and Season Structure for Collegiate & Club Teams

Announcement of USQ National Qualifier and US Quadball Cup structure adjustments, collegiate and club national championship format, changes to gameplay policies for the 2024-25 season, and reminders of other key gameplay policies and programs.

The US Quadball Gameplay Department conducts an extensive review of all league gameplay policies and programs from April to August each season. The team has evaluated the gender rule, season structure for USQ-run events, transfer policy, and other gameplay policy changes.

The complete list of gameplay policies is available here. Any questions about the structures, policies, or programs in this article can be directed to gameplay@usquadball.org.

Article contents:

  • The gender maximum rule

  • USQ Cup 2025 structure including  qualifier requirements for teams, how USQ decides who’s going (National Qualifiers), and the tournament structure

  • Season structure: requirements, bid allocation, requirements for qualifier seeding, season play, and at large

  • Changes to the transfer policy, including club A/B teams

  • Existing gameplay policies

  • Timeline & key dates

  • Ongoing evaluation

  • Questions?

Gender Maximum Rule

After a review of the 2023-24 USQ season, the Gameplay Team is ready to release plans for USQ’s continued rollout of changes to the Gender Maximum Rule. Henceforth, three max (or 3 max) refers to the change to the Gender Maximum Rule where a maximum of three players of a single gender are allowed on pitch during the seeker floor, and a maximum of four players of a single gender are allowed on pitch while the flag runner is on the field. USQ plans to continue the move to 3 max as follows:

  • 2024-25 Season

    • To be eligible for the USQ Cup 2025 Club Competitive Division, club teams will be required to play 3 max in all official games.

    • USQ Cup 2025 College Division 1 will require 3 max.

  • 2025-26 Season

    • To be eligible for the USQ Cup 2026 Club Competitive Division or USQ Cup 2026 College Division 1, teams will be required to play 3 max in all official games.

    • 3 max at USQ Cup 2026 for College Division 2 will be evaluated based on 2024-25 data and a decision made at the start of the 2025-26 season.

To allow for necessary flexibility, the gender maximum rule will continue to be a gameplay policy instead of a rule in the rulebook. USQ will continue to provide pathways for teams struggling to meet the 3 max requirement to ensure this does not negatively impact the growth of the sport or stunt new team development. For the upcoming season, these pathways include emailing gameplay@usquadball.org to opt out of the Competitive Division for the 2024-25 season and a waiver during the registration process for USQ Cup 2025 for club teams and College Division 1 teams.

While the transition to 3 max will not begin for College Division 1 until USQ Cup 2025 this season, all teams are strongly encouraged to start playing with this rule earlier in the season.

Throughout the 2024-25 season, the USQ Gameplay Team will continue to evaluate this policy, how it affects the sport and the community, and its impact and alignment with USQ’s organizational goals of inclusivity and diversity.

Women/Gender Non-Conforming Individuals Player Grant

With the continuation of the 3 max policy, USQ will be continuing the new player membership grant opportunity for women and gender non-conforming individuals to apply for this season. You can learn more about this grant and apply here.

2024-25 Season Structure

QUALIFICATION FOR US QUADBALL CUP 2024-25

USQ will not cap the number of teams allowed to compete at US Quadball Cup 2025 (USQ Cup 2025), but instead will divide the tournament into the following divisions, each with its own caps:

  1. College Division 1 (D1), with 16 teams

  2. College Division 2 (D2), with 16 teams

  3. College open division, with no cap*

  4. Club competitive division, with 16 teams

  5. Club open division, with no cap*

*These divisions will have their own schedule and will only be capped if absolutely necessary.

USQ Cup 2025 bids by division will be given out as follows:

College

  1. College D1: 13 bids will be awarded at national qualifiers, proportional to the number of teams competing at each qualifier. In March, 3 at-large bids will be assigned based on season rankings.

  2. College D2: 14 bids will be awarded at national qualifiers, proportional to the number of teams competing at each qualifier. In March, at-large bids will be assigned based on season rankings until a 16-team D2 is reached.

Again this season, USQ will use the Huntington-Hill method of apportionment in determining collegiate bid allocation. Of the 32 collegiate competitive division bids, 27 will be awarded at national qualifiers. These 27 bids will be distributed to the regions using the Huntington-Hill method. The remaining bids will be distributed at large.

In order to allocate each division’s bids to D1 and D2, each region’s quota will be multiplied by 0.48 and 0.52, respectively, to generate the divisional quota for D1 and D2. If the divisional quotas do not add up to the total number of bids in each division, a modified multiplier is used in place of the standard multiplier so that the modified divisional quotas sum correctly, and those modified divisional quotas are then used. More on the bid allocation timeline is shared below.

More details on the Huntington-Hill method can be found on the USQ Gameplay Policies & Forms page, in the 2024-25 Season Gameplay Requirements tab.

Club

10 bids to the USQ Cup 2025 Competitive Division will be awarded at national qualifiers, proportional to the number of bid-eligible teams competing at each qualifier. The return to a bid system where the majority of bids are awarded at qualifiers was motivated by the move of all qualifiers to the spring season, which provides a more reliable estimate of the teams in attendance at each qualifier.

In March, 6 at-large bids will be assigned based on the season rankings.  If a club team that has already received a bid to USQ Cup 2025 is attending another national qualifier, and that team places high enough to earn a bid, the additional bid they would have earned becomes an at-large bid. It does not go to the next highest placing team at that event. If a club qualifier does not have the minimum number of teams to compete, USQ will discuss competitive opportunities with local teams in the area.

In addition to the above bids, the champion of each national qualifier will be given pot priority at USQ Cup 2025. In practice, this will mean that when the standings freeze for USQ Cup 2025 seeding (see Timeline & Key Dates), the top four qualifier champions in the standings will comprise Pot 1, and the fifth-ranked qualifier champion will be placed in Pot 2.

In order to be eligible for a bid to the USQ Cup 2025 Club Competitive Division, a club team will be required to play 3 max in all official games. To opt out of this eligibility voluntarily, teams should email gameplay@usquadball.org. Teams who opt out of competitive division eligibility may still attend national qualifiers, and games between teams that have opted out will be prioritized to the fullest extent possible. Teams that opt out of competitive division eligibility are still encouraged to play 3 max when feasible.

NATIONAL QUALIFIER ASSIGNMENTS

For the 2024-25 season, all teams must attend at least one national qualifier to qualify for US Quadball Cup 2025. Teams will be assigned to a national qualifier by USQ. To facilitate this process and ensure bids are distributed fairly, college teams will rank their top 3 choices upon team registration. College teams will only be assigned to one national qualifier*. Club teams will rank up their top 3 choices upon team registration. Club teams can also note if they have interest in attending more than one qualifier when registering - with USQ confirming this prior to finalizing national qualifier attendance.

Qualifier bids will be calculated and publicly announced in early December, along with the list of teams attending each national qualifier. National qualifiers will be allocated bids based on the number of registrants by 11:59 pm PST on December 1. The remaining at-large bids will be awarded in March.

For qualifiers, the official USQ standings will be used to seed teams as needed. All teams that have not yet played sufficient official games will be counted as unseeded (see Season Play Requirements).

USQ requires a minimum qualifier size for the collegiate division. In the 2024-25 season, the minimum will be five teams. If a national qualifier does not have five college teams able to attend by the December 1 deadline, or if the number of collegiate teams drops below five after that point, USQ Gameplay and Events Departments will determine whether a qualifier for that collegiate division will occur. If the collegiate division at a qualifier cannot occur, USQ will establish dedicated at-large bids based on the number of teams registered for that qualifier by the December 1 deadline.

You can find additional information about national qualifier dates and locations here and at the end of this article.

*In cases where a national qualifier does not have enough collegiate teams to occur, other teams may be allowed to attend that national qualifier in addition to their assigned qualifier. If a college team that has already received a bid to US Quadball Cup 2025 is attending another qualifier, and that team places high enough to earn a bid, the additional bid they would have earned becomes an at-large bid. It does not go to the next highest placing team at that event.

SEASON PLAY REQUIREMENTS

USQ Cup 2025

To qualify for USQ Cup 2025 bids, teams must fulfill season play requirements to ensure that their ranking roughly reflects their season-long performance. The season play requirements mandate a minimum number of opponents played during the season, a minimum number of games, and competing at a national qualifier. For the 2024-25 season, all games played at national qualifiers will count towards season play requirements for all teams.

Teams that do not earn bids for USQ Cup 2025 must complete the following season play requirements in full by March 16, 2025 to be eligible for an at-large bid:

  • Compete in at least 10 USQ official games.

  • Compete against at least 8 different USQ official teams*.

  • Attend 4 events, of which one must be a USQ national qualifier.

Alternatively, teams aiming to earn an at-large bid can reduce their overall requirements by competing against at least one opponent who competed at a different national qualifier:

  • Compete in at least 8 USQ official games*.

  • Compete against at least 7 different USQ official teams*.

  • Attend 3 events, of which one must be a USQ national qualifier.

Teams who earned USQ Cup 2025 bids at a qualifier will have reduced season play requirements, which must be completed by March 30, 2025, to confirm their place in the division for which they earned the bid:

  • Compete in at least 8 USQ official games*.

  • Compete against at least 5 different USQ official teams*.

  • Attend 3 events, of which one must be a USQ national qualifier.

*Club teams will only be able to fulfill this requirement by competing against other club teams. College teams may use games against club teams to count for these requirements. Cross-division games (college vs. club) will not count for standings.

Open Division at USQ Cup 2025

With the reduction in the size of the club competitive division, USQ will be working to elevate the experience of teams playing in the club open division to function more similarly to a Division 2. Depending on participation and interest, this may include pool play into bracket play or other structures that can result in a champion.

Club and college teams interested in the open division will not have season play requirements, but are encouraged to attend official events before USQ Cup 2025. Unofficial teams that wish to compete in the open division can contact events@usquadball.org

USQ National Qualifiers

In order to be seeded, all teams must play a minimum number of official games before their national qualifier, as indicated below. For national qualifiers, the official USQ standings will be used to seed teams as needed. All teams that have not yet played the required number of official games will be counted as unseeded.

2 weeks before attending a national qualifier, official teams wishing to be seeded at that qualifier will be required to:

  • Compete in at least 5 USQ official games.

  • Compete against 3 different teams.

  • Attend 2 official event

  • Complete the referee and flag runner requirements

Additional information on gameplay policies is available here

Club A/B Teams

Effective this season, club teams will now be allowed to form A/B Team partnerships to facilitate transfers between the two teams, similar to the current collegiate Varsity/JV team transfer policy, which remains unchanged. In order to form a Club A/B Team partnership, both club teams must indicate that they are part of a Club A/B Team partnership with the other club when completing initial club registration. If teams have already registered, but wish to form a Club A/B Team partnership, both teams must separately email gameplay@usquadball.org indicating their desire to form an A/B Team partnership with each other.

Club players who are a member of a club team part of an A/B Team partnership may transfer between the teams under the following conditions:

Before qualifiers: Players may transfer freely between the two teams without limit. To compete in USQ official games, a player must be on the team's roster before the final roster submission deadline. Players must fill out the Player Transfer Form to transfer between teams.

After qualifiers: If both teams earned a bid for USQ Cup 2025, they may continue to freely transfer players between the two teams.

If only the A team earned a bid for USQ Cup 2025, and the B team still wishes to be eligible for an at-large bid, transfers between the teams will not be permitted until after the at-large deadline (see Timeline & Key Dates). In this case, a B team that wishes to transfer players to or from their A team must email gameplay@usquadball.org to opt out of the competitive division at USQ Cup 2025.

The USQ Gameplay Team has established this policy in order to encourage club teams to develop more of their players in official games. As with the collegiate Varsity/JV transfer policy, the USQ Gameplay Team reserves the right to deny transfers if this policy is abused in such a way that impacts competitive balance in the league.

Existing Gameplay Policies

Please review the full Gameplay Policies and Forms website page for information about key policies that are not changing from the 2023-24 season. This website includes the official game requirements, roster submission requirements, game appeal policy, forfeit procedure, fair play policy, tiebreaker policy, equipment waiver form, and concession policy. The disciplinary policy is still under review and is subject to changes, which will be finalized and released before the end of December.

Members must also abide by the official member code of conduct and unlawful harassment policy.

The 2024-25 season will be played under USQ Rulebook 2024, which was released on September 3rd. The casebook, certification for officials and tournament directors will be released soon.

  • Between Wednesday evening and 24 hours before the event:

    • Any changes to a participating teams roster after submission on Wednesday must be emailed to membership@usquadball.org. Participating teams rosters are locked 24 hours before the event.

    • Participating teams must have a fully certified coach. Coaches should have upgraded or purchased coach membership by Wednesday evening

  • 2 days after the event: post event forms submitted by tournament director and scores submitted to USQ by the tournament director

  • 1 week after the event: forfeits at tournament emailed to gameplay@usquadball.org (if applicable)

The deadlines for the team referee and flag runner requirements vary and are as follows:

  • Teams must complete the team referee and flag runner requirements by the season play deadline for that specific event (2 weeks before the event).

If a team does not complete these requirements by the deadline, it must complete them by 24 hours before its next scheduled official event and risk losing their ability to attend the event. In cases of potential disqualification, USQ will set a timeline on a case by case basis and communicate to affected teams.

2024-25 Season USQ National Qualifiers & USQ Cup

Information on all upcoming USQ National Qualifiers dates is available here. This includes detailed additional deadlines for teams to be aware of (including hotel/stay & play, tournament registration, etc).

USQ Cup 2025 will take place at River City Sportsplex in Richmond, Virginia on April 26-27, 2025.  The event is hosted in partnership with Visit Richmond, Experience Chesterfield County, and Play Chesterfield. Information on deadlines for teams to be aware will be made available here.

Ongoing Evaluation

The Gameplay Team is continually evaluating possible changes to the USQ season structure. Some changes that the team evaluated for the 2024-25 season which were not implemented, but may be considered for future seasons, include:

  • Using the 2024-25 standings and performance at the upcoming USQ Cup 2025 to qualify club teams for a future Premier Tier of 8-10 teams, who would primarily play each other to achieve season play requirements.

  • Requiring 3 max for USQ Cup Club Open Division bracket games.

  • Extending the Club A/B team policy to C teams and beyond.

  • Reducing the roster size for club and/or college teams.

  • Requiring all season play requirements to be satisfied between January 1st and the deadlines in March.

  • Adding an earlier transfer deadline for the USQ Cup Club Competitive Division, and/or requiring all players rostered for the USQ Cup Club Competitive Division to have been rostered for their team for at least one prior tournament.

  • Assigning bids to the national tournament by prior years’ performance, rather than the Huntington-Hill method.

  • Standings Algorithm: modifying club teams’ strength of schedule based on their opt-out status for the USQ Cup Club Competitive Division.

USQ will continue to collect feedback on the structure of club and collegiate division teams. Feedback is always reviewed at the end of the season. Your feedback is important to us so we can make adjustments where necessary. Please do not hesitate to contact USQ with comments, thoughts, or ideas at gameplay@usquadball.org. Quadball is your sport, and you always have the opportunity to positively impact the direction it grows.

Collier and Board Chair Joey Galtelli invite members of the community to a town hall meeting to have the opportunity to meet USQ’s new CEO and learn more about the upcoming season. Please fill out this RSVP for the town hall linked here to receive an invite once a date and time has been determined.

After taking home the gold at the IQA World Cup in 2023, the United States National Team (USNT) program underwent a number of changes on both the staff and player sides.

With a full USQ season in the books since the IQA World Cup, the coaching staff has had a chance to evaluate players across the country at both USNT training camps and regular season tournaments. We’ve also seen players and staff step away from the program over the past 12 months, with new and talented individuals stepping in to take their place. Below, we outline those changes across both the USNT and the USNT Developmental Academy (USNTDA).

ROSTER UPDATES

Claire Olmstead stepped down from the USNTDA. Andrew Steinberg, Kawena Abrigo, Chanun Ong, and Sena Morimoto were released from the program.

Kasye Bevers has been promoted from the USNTDA to the USNT.

Julia Baer, Henry Baer-Benson, Kaci Erwin, Rachel Heald, Kobe Kendall, Augustine Monroe, and Tyler Trudeau have stepped down from the USNT. Serena Monteiro was released from the USNT.

The USNT has two additions in this cycle, Ally Manzella and Emma Vasquez from Boom Train.

The USNTDA has 10 new additions:
Lauren Smith (Mizzou Club Quadball)

Shane McConaghie (Virginia Reunited)

Ryan Mehio (Creighton Quadball)

Riley Usami (Creighton Quadball)

David Avila (Texas State Quadball)

Shakthi Kodeswaran (Brandeis Quadball)

Neil Peterson (Michigan Quadball)

Janessa Duce (Mizzou Club Quadball)

Alyssa Villalba (UTSA Club Quadball)

Jason Wu (Middlebury Quadball)

You can view the full roster for USNT and USNTDA here. The coaching staff plans to do another round of evaluation following the completion of the current MLQ season.

STAFF

Amanda Dallas will be stepping down as USNT Manager. The program has welcomed Hanna Reese as the new manager for the USNT program.

“This program would not be what it is today without Dallas’ involvement. She helped transform the USNT from an all star team into a reputable program other national teams look to as an example and was pivotal to the establishment and success of the USNTDA,” said USNT Head Coach Michael Parada.

Reese has been an involved member of the Quadball community in the Carolinas since 2013. She has held leadership positions in Carolina Heat, Southern Storm, Palmetto Phoenix of the Southeast quadball summer league, and Terminus Atlanta. Most prominently, Reese has held the position of manager for MLQ’s Charlotte Aviators since the team’s inception. She was key to the creation of the team and its acceptance into MLQ.

“The requirements of the USNT manager role can be very challenging and demanding. The manager must work well with a multitude of personalities, have great organizational and communication skills, and thrive in a competitive athletic environment. Hanna Reese is easily the best candidate to fill this role and anyone that has had the opportunity to work with her would agree,” Dallas said.

Parada will continue in his role as the USNT head coach. Jackson Johnson and Ethan Sturm will also continue in their roles as USNT assistant coaches.

As previously announced, USNTDA Head Coach Azeem Hussain has retired. Dallas, who served as an assistant coach for the DA in Richmond and as USNT Manager since 2017, will move into the role of Interim USNTDA Head Coach for the remainder of 2024. Intent on finding a replacement for Dallas, applications are open for two USNTDA assistant coaches.

“This will be my last season with the USNT/DA program,” noted Dallas. “I’ve enjoyed my time with the program over the years and am excited to bring my 12 years of Quadball experience to the table as the Interim USNTDA Head Coach for the rest of 2024.”

Dallas is one of the most tenured coaches in Quadball and has a comprehensive resume that includes various coaching roles for the USNTDA, New York University, the New York Titans, The Warriors, and Creighton University.

“The goal is to bring on two assistant coaches this summer who will work with us to prep for and will attend and coach at Quadball Nations Cup. After that, the goal will be to find a head coach for the USNTDA for 2025 and beyond–whether that be a promotion of one of the assistant coaches or an external hire,” Reese said.

QUADBALL NATIONS CUP

In December, the International Quadball Association announced they would not be hosting an IQA Pan-American Games in 2024. The next event for our program will be the Quadball Nations Cup where the USNTDA will compete for the title this fall.

A new kit and other merchandise to support the athletes will drop later this summer. We have launched our first fundraiser, the USNTDA Donation Cart, and will be holding additional fundraisers in the coming months. The final roster will be announced later this summer.
