USQ Strategic Planning June Update

Over the past six months, USQ has undertaken one of the most comprehensive strategic planning efforts in the organization's history. Through surveys, focus groups, town halls, community discussions, and countless hours of volunteer work, we've worked to answer a fundamental question: What does a sustainable future for quadball look like?

The Strategic Planning Committee has completed the framework for USQ's 3-Year, 5-Year, and 10-Year Operating Plans, creating a roadmap that will guide the organization from stabilization to long-term sustainability.

Last night, we hosted our final strategic planning town hall, where we unveiled the core components of all three operating plans and shared the vision that will guide USQ through 2036.

At the center of the plan is a simple vision statement: US Quadball is a league built for a lifetime.

From youth opportunities in local communities to college and club teams to alumni networks, our goal is to create a lifelong pathway that allows people to stay connected to quadball at every stage of life.

The town hall outlined three interconnected phases of growth.

2026-29: Stabilize
The first three years focus on rebuilding the foundation of the sport.

Key priorities include:

  • Stopping the net loss of teams

  • Stabilizing overall membership

  • Strengthening the college-to-club transition pipeline

  • Launching youth pilot programs

  • Beginning revenue diversification efforts

By 2029, USQ aims to return to sustainable growth while improving retention across players, volunteers, and teams.

2026-31: Strengthen
Years four and five focus on turning stability into resilience.

This phase emphasizes:

  • Higher-quality and more consistent events

  • Improved officiating development and training

  • Better marketing and storytelling

  • More professionalized systems and operations

  • Expanded sponsorship, merchandise, and youth programming revenue

The goal is to move beyond recovery and establish USQ as a credible, sustainable niche sport organization.

2031-36: Sustain
The final phase focuses on creating a durable national ecosystem capable of supporting generations of athletes.

The vision for 2036 includes:

  • More than 2,100 participants nationwide

  • More than 100 active teams

  • Multiple full-time and part-time staff positions

  • Diverse revenue streams that reduce dependence on player dues

  • Strong regional ecosystems that support consistent growth

  • A clear pathway from youth to college to club participation

Most importantly, success means building an organization that is not dependent on a small number of volunteers carrying the entire sport.

Throughout the planning process, several themes emerged repeatedly from stakeholders across the community:

  • Sustainable growth matters more than rapid expansion.

  • Regional density is more valuable than isolated teams.

  • Retention is just as important as recruitment.

  • Revenue diversification is essential for long-term stability.

  • Accessibility and inclusion must remain core to the identity of the sport.

These themes ultimately became the guiding principles of the operating plans. With those plans now complete, the next phase of the process begins.

Over the coming weeks, USQ CEO Amanda Dallas will work with departments across the organization to establish Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that align directly with the strategic plan. This work will include every major department within USQ, including the Board of Directors.

The goal is to ensure that each department has clear, measurable objectives that contribute to the broader organizational vision and allow us to track progress year over year.

It’s important to remember the strategic planning process does not end with the completion of the operating plans or the setting of OKRs. In many ways, this is where the real work begins.

The full strategic plan—including the complete 3-, 5-, and 10-year operating plans—will be released publicly in early July on usquadball.org. The plans will be reviewed and, as needed, revised annually.
