Introducing the Greenhouse Award

US Quadball is proud to announce the launch of the Greenhouse Award, a new annual honor recognizing the most valuable players in college quadball.

The Greenhouse Award celebrates exceptional athletic performance while also honoring leadership, sportsmanship, and meaningful contributions to the quadball community. The award is named in honor of Harry Greenhouse, one of the sport’s most influential players, coaches, and collegiate advocates.

“The Greenhouse Award is about more than recognizing the best player on the field. It’s about honoring the athletes who elevate everyone around them. Harry Greenhouse represents the very best of college quadball: excellence, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to building something bigger than himself. This award is our way of investing in the future of the sport by celebrating the players who are shaping it right now,” said USQ CEO Amanda Dallas.

The award is designed to recognize players who make the game look effortless through elite skill and athleticism, while also setting the standard for attitude, preparation, and respect for the sport. Winners exemplify dedication not just to winning, but to building up their teams, their conferences, and the broader quadball community. Players are nominated by their teams and selected through a vote of current college athletes, making the award a true reflection of peer recognition and respect.

Harry Greenhouse’s legacy in quadball spans every level of the sport and serves as the foundation for what this award represents. He began his quadball career at the University of Maryland, where he captained the team and helped lead the program to a semifinal appearance in his senior year (2015). A standout chaser and one of the best seekers to ever play the sport, Greenhouse went on to win a national title with Q.C. Boston at US Quidditch Cup 9 and three Major League Quadball championships with the Boston Forge, a team he also coached for multiple seasons. Internationally, he represented the U.S. at three IQA World Cups, earning gold medals in 2014 and 2018.

Off the pitch, Greenhouse’s impact has been just as significant. As commissioner of the Massachusetts Quadball Conference, he stabilized collegiate programs, expanded the conference’s reach, and set a national standard for stats, film, and program health. His long-term guidance on recruitment and retention has helped create one of the strongest and healthiest college quadball ecosystems in the country. As head coach of Boston University, he revitalized one of the sport’s oldest programs, returning it to national contention and laying the groundwork for sustainable success. Above all else, Greenhouse is known for the energy, mentorship, and generosity he brings to every quadball space. He is always willing to talk strategy, offer advice, or support a player discovering the sport for the first time.

“I am incredibly honored to be the namesake of the inaugural college MVP award. Quadball has truly been a life changer for me. It has been part of nearly every relationship I currently have and nearly every positive memory from my adult life. I am beyond grateful for everything in this sport,” Greenhouse said.

Inspired by USA Ultimate’s Callahan Award, the Greenhouse Award will follow a structured nomination and voting process. Nominations will open on March 1 of each season and close on May 1 at 11:59 pm ET. Any USQ-registered college quadball team may submit up to two candidates of differing gender identities, using whatever internal selection process they choose. Teams must designate a single representative as a point of contact for their nominees, and once a nomination is submitted, the player may not be replaced.

Voting will open on May 6 and close on May 13 at 11:59 pm ET, with all ballots submitted online. Voters will rank first-, second-, and third-place candidates, with votes weighted by point value to determine the winner. To preserve competitive integrity, restrictions are in place regarding voting for players on one’s own team, and incomplete ballots will not be counted. Voters are encouraged to evaluate candidates based on excellence on the pitch, dedication to quadball and community impact, and consistent sportsmanship. USQ reserves the right to remove any candidate for actions that undermine the integrity of the award.

The inaugural Greenhouse Award winner will be announced on May 27, with arrangements made for the physical award to be delivered by mail.

The Greenhouse Award stands as both a celebration of the very best in college quadball and a call to invest in the future of the sport. By honoring players who excel, lead, and give back, US Quadball hopes to inspire the next generation to carry forward the values that Harry Greenhouse has embodied for more than a decade.

“While succeeding on the field was always the most important thing to me, I was raised on making sure to give back when you gain success. I implore others to put as much effort as they can into the college level of this sport so that countless others can enjoy the benefits and amazing qualities of quadball,” Greenhouse said.

USQ would like to thank Erin Moreno, Ethan Sturm, and Tad Walters for their assistance in developing this award.
