March Strategic Planning Update

In January, US Quadball kicked off a strategic planning process designed to chart the organization’s direction for the next decade. This effort will result in a board-approved plan that defines a three-year operational roadmap, a five-year growth strategy, and a 10-year vision for the sport.

We’re excited to share that the first two phases of this process are now complete.

Phase 1: Building the Foundation
From January 19 through February 2, our focus was alignment.

The USQ Strategic Planning Committee formed and conducted the initial steps of confirming the scope of work and clarifying what success must look like across our three-, five-, and 10-year horizons. We established measurable success criteria and defined how decisions will be made throughout the planning process to ensure transparency and accountability.

Leadership roles were assigned to support different aspects of the work. Executive oversight is being provided by Board Chair Bernie Berges. Financial modeling and fiscal review are being led by Board Treasurer Clay Dockery and Board Member Patrick Rardin. The strategic planning process itself is being coordinated by CEO Amanda Dallas, and dedicated leads were appointed for data and research and community engagement.

By the end of Phase 1, we had finalized:

  • A strategic planning charter

  • A detailed timeline with decision checkpoints

  • A stakeholder engagement plan

  • A clear decision authority and approval flow

This phase ensured that before we talk about the future, we were aligned on how we get there.

Phase 2: Preparing the Data and Engagement Tools
From February 3 through February 16, we shifted into preparation mode.

Strategic planning must be grounded in reality. That means understanding our finances, participation trends, revenue mix, volunteer capacity, and growth pipelines before setting ambitious targets.

During this phase, we compiled:

  • Financial data from the last three to five years

  • Sponsorship and revenue percentage breakdowns

  • Membership and participation trend analyses

  • DEI impact and access metrics

  • Youth, collegiate, and club pipeline data

  • Staff and volunteer capacity assessments

At the same time, we built the tools needed to gather broad community input. Survey contact lists were finalized across collegiate, club, volunteer, donor, and city partner stakeholders. Custom surveys were drafted for each of these groups, along with a stakeholder engagement calendar to guide interviews, focus groups, and future town halls.

With these pieces in place, we moved into the discovery phase equipped with both quantitative data and structured avenues for qualitative feedback.

Phase 3: Discovery
We are currently in Phase 3.

Community input is central to the success of this plan. The surveys were distributed to their corresponding contact list and results are actively rolling in. Select members were also contacted to participate in focus groups. Surveys will close on March 20 to allow individuals that attend those focus groups to submit additional feedback after the group session.

If you received a survey link via email, we strongly encourage you to complete it before the deadline. If you did not receive a link, check your spam or fill out our general feedback form. This strategic plan will guide decisions around collegiate growth, youth expansion, club sustainability, financial resilience, accessibility, and long-term infrastructure. The more input we receive now, the stronger and more representative the final product will be.

We have also launched the dates for our upcoming town halls. These will take place online and allow any member of the community the opportunity to stop by for a strategic planning update and provide feedback. You can check out the USQ Season Calendar for dates and times.

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed feedback and time to this process.
