USQ Restructure Announcement

With the announced departure of US Quadball’s Executive Director Mary Kimball, the board of directors and staff have been conducting an audit of USQ’s staff structure, finances, and operational procedures. The goal of this audit was to determine strategic next steps for the future of the leagues operation. The board and staff have come to the conclusion that several aspects of the organization must be restructured to ensure the organization's future success.

Changes for the 2023-24 Season

  1. Elimination of the Executive Director position.

    1. The workload of the ED position was unsustainable, so responsibilities will be divided amongst other roles to allow for a more productive and healthier work environment.

  2. Two new employee positions being introduced into the structure:

    1. Senior Director of Membership & Operations (Full-Time)

      1. Responsible for supervising the day to day operations of the league. This role will be the chief executive of the organization.

      2. This role will be filled by current Director of Membership & Programs, Megan Anderson.

    2. Advancement Manager (Part-Time)

      1. Responsible for diversifying revenue streams for the league via fundraising, grants, and sponsorship efforts.

      2. This role is open and accepting applications. Info about how to apply for this role can be found below.

  3. Engaging an accounting firm to help manage league finances.

    1. This will be handled by the Finance Team with supervision from the Board Treasurer.

    2. USQ is still in the process of identifying an accounting firm to engage. In the interim, duties will be taken on by the Board Treasurer and Finance Team Lead.

  4. Expanding our partnership with Hit Your Mark Productions to lead the management of US Quadball Cup 2024 and USQ National Qualifier: Champaign County.

    1. Hit Your Mark Productions will be responsible for tournament planning, implementation, on-site sponsor activations and engagement, advising on marketing/PR efforts, and helping to build consistent branding and improved event experience for members and spectators across all USQ tournaments.

  5. Providing stipends for key tournament staff for National Qualifiers and US Quadball Cup 2024. This includes livestream managers, gameplay managers, etc.

    1. The Assistant Tournament Director role for US Quadball Cup 2024, and Tournament Director Role for all USQ National Qualifiers (except Champaign County) will be filled by Brett Curtis, who recently served as the on-site Tournament Director for IQA World Cup.

      1. This role will help further build on the delivery of consistent branding and experiences for our members and spectators at each of these tournaments, plus helping to foster relationships with partners in each of these cities.

    2. Opportunities for open tournament staff roles can be found below.

  6. Update of USQ’s organization chart to assist with redistribution of duties and communication flow within the league.

    1. Goal is to produce less bottleneck in operations, and ease day to day operations within each department.

Open Staff Roles

Click on each role outlined below for full description and application details. Applications close August 17.

Open Volunteer Roles

All opportunities available to volunteer with the league are available here. Applications close September 30 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

These changes reflect our transition to a new business model that prioritizes financial efficiency, expansion on staff/volunteer compensation, diversified income streams, and member experience. Additionally, the league believes that positioning the Senior Director of Membership & Operations role at the forefront of the organization will safeguard the member experience while the board continues to guide strategic initiatives that will move USQ towards further stability and growth.

USQ Board Chair Shirley Lu and Board of Director Member Joey Galtelli shared that "Megan's work as Director of Membership & Programs since 2022 has been foundational and we believe she is the perfect person to steer the organization into this next chapter of life. These organizational changes are constructive, precise, and symbolic of where we believe the organization needs to focus in the next few years: finding sustainability without sacrificing the experiences of our members”. The board and staff look forward to implementing this new change for the 2023-24 season - the new org structure will go into effect starting July 28.

Additional updates regarding 2023-24 season operations, including launch of membership and other programs, will be made available in early August.
