Bid Evaluation Process
US Quadball events are typically hosted at athletic facilities that submit proposals (“bids”) to host the event. Submitted bids are evaluated based on factors including facility quality (including field type - grass vs turf, historical weather data, and if the fields have lights), proximity to local teams, ease of travel into the city (proximity to a major airport), player safety, and availability of in-kind services and financial support - services and support that alleviate the cost of the event, allowing for a more affordable and accessible experience for players. Each of the bid packages of the event finalists listed below met USQ bid requirements and expectations in more than one of these categories. Further explanation of the bid process can be found in the event bidding manual.
Another major consideration was the experience of LGBTQIA+, Black, and non-Black people of color as they travel to and attend these events. Player safety in all forms is our number one priority for USQ events and programs. We have addressed safety for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) attendees more directly in our bid manual, as part of our continued commitment to uplifting the experiences of marginalized communities and combating racial injustice. USQ recognizes that LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC attendees often have not felt safe in the communities where USQ has hosted previous events, and moreover LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC attendees have experienced unsafe situations when traveling between their homes and the host city. We have ongoing dialogues with our city partners about what USQ and host cities can do to combat unsafe environments, and continue to implement policies related to minority player safety, including gender neutral bathrooms at events and a limited, where possible, law enforcement presence. We are also discussing the issue with staff, including the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee, as we continue the bid evaluation process.
Lastly, we also put a focus on developing new city partnerships. This connects directly with our vision of ensuring that more people in the United States are aware of quadball as a sport. Working with new city partners expands our exposure into areas where the community might not be fully aware of our sport, our leagues, or our events.
